Welcome to Snippets and Sketches
Not so much a new thing as it is a new way to do an old thing.
This isn’t so much a new thing as it is a new way to do an old thing, with a few tweaks. I’ve been blogging since forever, and writing longer than that, and I’ve had an author newsletter for several years now. But that last thing has been snatched away from me (basically because of a technicality, but that’s a boring story). So I HAD to move my newsletter. And then I decided that I wanted it to be something more than author updates.
I want Snippets and Sketches to be a place where people can find relevant snippets about poetry, art, and children’s books, with a little bit of regular life thrown in. My hope is that it will be fun for fans of poetry and children’s books; constructive for those who write them; and inspiring (or at least interesting) for anyone else who comes along.
As of now, the plan is to post at least once a week, perhaps twice a week until I get into a rhythm.
To get this thing officially started, and to help you get to know me a little bit better, here are five things I’ve been enjoying recently:
Reading RHYTHM OF WAR by Brandon Sanderson aloud to my husband. Yes, I love short writing, but I also love a good epic fantasy.
My flower garden (pictured below). The purple coneflowers are in all their glory right now.
Reading through the first draft of one of my middle grade novel manuscripts. Turns out it might actually be worth revising!
ON THE EDGE OF THE DARK SEA OF DARKNESS by Andrew Peterson. This is the first book of The Wingfeather Saga, a middle grade fantasy series. I found it funny and engaging.
My grandkids. They will always be at the top of my list, even if I don’t list them when I do posts like this.
So excited that you’re here!
