Your cakes are amazing!! And I’m guessing they’re delish too.
I loved our Shabbat dinners every Friday night. I’d bake a challah and my daughter and I would light the candles and sing the prayer while my son blessed the Challah and hubby the wine/grape juice. As empty nesters we still celebrate Shabbat. It’s my favorite time of the week. 🥰
I love love love this. Your cakes are pure joy! And I think there’s something extra creatively fueling about creating something that’s simply for joy, not for profit – as someone who is creative for my day job, this is something I’ve been mulling on a lot these days.
I enjoy reading your posts! I used to make cakes for our boys, and yes, it's out of love and for the memories - nothing else. I don't make cakes for grands, but do other things... I drive our twin 10-year olds to school every day, and last ;year we did an adjective of the day such as "marvelous Monday" and "thrilling Thursday" and tried to come up with new ones every week. We ran out by winter break and the second half of the year did joke of the day. This year we're doing a word of the day from Merriam-Websters website for student vocab. I also do sewing projects for all of them and with them on occasion. After lots of years of only seeing the Idaho kids once or twice a year and the Omaha kids 3 or 4 times a year, it's nice to be a regular part of their lives. Our HS freshman has her Christmas Choir Concert tonight and has a solo, and we'll be there!
The cakes are amazing! I love that your grandkids will have cake memories. One thing I did was was let my son pick three characters and then I'd make up a bedtime story with those characters.
Thank you for sharing this. I teared up. I believe in what you’re saying 100%. It’s worth spending those hours loving and connecting with kids whether they notice and appreciate it or not. It’s good for them, and for you, too!
My favorite way to connect with my kids is family story time, snuggled up on the couch reading aloud.
Thank you, Rafael. I hadn’t thought of anything beyond the documentation of the results of my labors. But a storybook of frosted cakes…that’s an interesting idea!
Those cakes look delicious in a folk-art kind of way. When I started reading your post I was hoping you would have lots of photos. (I never scroll quickly through something that I want to read, just in case there’s a spoiler in there.) Do I detect something more than just photos, like perhaps a story book in the works? Whatever your intent, it’s a genius move to document with photos all your little labors of love. I’ve built many musical instruments in my time, and O how I wish I

I love that!

Thank you, Eliza. And yes, I agree!

We got wet snow here just northwest of Buffalo. I dubbed it “Waterlogged Wednesday.”
Thank you, Pam! I love all your special things you do with your grands!

That’s a fun idea, Penny!

Reading aloud with the kids is the best!
You have a real gift! Wow!
Thank you! I try to use my artistic skills in lots of different ways.
…continued, sorry…oh how I wish I had documented the process with photos along the way!

Building musical instruments. That’s impressive!
