Celebrating 100 Newsletters
I just accomplished something that used to seem impossible. Come celebrate with me!
Welcome to my 100th issue of Snippets and Sketches! I have been publishing this newsletter every single week without fail for 100 weeks! Are you amazed? I certainly am. One consistent thing about me is how difficult it is for me to maintain a consistent habit of doing anything. So writing a newsletter 100 weeks in a row is a huge deal.
I launched Snippets and Sketches way back in once upon a time time1 when I was no longer able to use the newsletter platform I had been using for years. I had recently signed the contract for the publication of my first middle grade novel, Mari in the Margins, so I had to find a new platform to help me spread the word. But I didn’t want Snippets and Sketches to be simply a way to promote my books. I wanted it to be a place to share pieces of myself, my writing expertise, my illustration journey, and my love of children’s books, art, and poetry. You can read the very first issue here if you’re so inclined, though it’s nothing to be too excited about.
Back then I had 46 subscribers, all of whom were from my original email list. If you are one of those original 46 and you’re still with me…wow! Thank you for sticking around!
As I said before, 100 weekly newsletters in 100 weeks feels like a huge accomplishment for me, so I want to celebrate! When I worked at an elementary school, the 100th day of school was a big deal. Classrooms marked the occasion by making 100th Day of School hats and doing various fun (and educational) activities relating to the number 100. They even had 100th Day of School snacks!
So I thought to myself…what can I do to celebrate 100 that’s just as fun?
Share 100 reasons to read my books?
List my 100 favorite picture books?
Pass out 100 Tootsie Roll Pops?
The first two would take too long, and that last one would be hard to do via an email newsletter.
So, instead, I’m giving away some stuff! First, a little printable freebie for all of my readers. It’s coloring page version of the Witch’s Treat Truck, an illustration I created for one of SVS Learn’s “How to Fix Your Art” prompts:
And, I’m giving away some books!
To show my appreciation for my subscribers, whether you’ve been here since the beginning or you’re just jumping on board, I’m giving away several copies of my books. There are three prizes for three different winners:
A paperback picture book pack. This will include paperback editions of three of my picture books: Two Tough Trucks, Two Tough Trucks Get Lost, and Federico and the Wolf.
A hardcover copy of one of my picture books. Winner’s choice!
A copy of my middle grade novel in verse, Mari in the Margins.
All of these books will be signed and personalized according to the winner’s specifications.
Now for the boring part. The rules:
You must be a subscriber of Snippets and Sketches. If you’re not a subscriber yet, here’s an easy subscribe button:
You must be at least 18 years old.
You must have a valid U.S. mailing address.
To enter, comment on this post (or reply to this email).
Winners will be chosen randomly on Monday, June 9, and will be announced in that day’s newsletter.
Aren’t you glad there aren’t 100 rules?
I hope you will help me celebrate by entering my giveaway and telling your friends! Thank you for being here!
Rebecca
I can’t resist borrowing the first line of Jon Scieszka’s The True Story of the Three Little Pigs whenever I mention something in my life that happened a while back.
Congratulations, Rebecca! I bet you’ll be having a 500 bash before you know it.
Congratulations on 100!
